Photograph Description
The planet’s rings are barely visible, but are seen as shadows cast on Saturn’s surface. The varying densities are responsible for the differing darkness of the shadows. This image was taken with the wide-angle camera on board the Cassini spacecraft. It was obtained at a distance of approximately 1.5 million kilometres from Saturn, on 5th April 2007.
