Photograph Description
Sunlit view of the spinning vortex of Saturn’s north polar storm, taken by NASA’s Cassini orbiter from a distance of approximately 419,000 kilometres. Measurements have sized the eye at a staggering 2,000 kilometres across, with cloud speeds as fast as 330 miles per hour (150 metres per second). Images taken using a combination of spectral filters sensitive to wavelengths of near-infrared light were combined to create this enhanced-colour view. Imaged by Cassini’s narrow-angle camera, on 27th November 2012. (Photo by Science Photo Library)
