Photograph Description
Panoramic (360 degree) Mars Path- finder mosaic image of the dusty, rocky surface of the planet Mars, seen to the horizon. The image is split into two strips, continuous from left to right, and from top to bottom. In the lower frame of each strip are triangular petals of the Mars Pathfinder craft with solar panels; white deflated airbags protected Pathfinder during its landing. On the horizon (upper strip) the double “Twin Peaks” are visible. At left (lower strip) is the Sojourner robot vehicle sampling the large rock “Yogi”. Panorama mosaic taken by the Imager for Mars Pathfinder (IMP) on the 8th, 9th and 10th Martian days since landing on Mars on 4 July 1997. (Photo by Science Photo Library)
