Photograph Description

Saturn’s moon Titan, Cassini image. Titan (orange) in front of its parent planet Saturn (yellow, right). Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, has a diameter of 5150 kilometres. Its thick atmosphere, consisting of mostly nitrogen with traces of methane, gives Titan its distinctive orange colour. Saturn’s rings are seen almost face-on, appearing as a thin line across upper centre. Image obtained on 1st August 2007 by the Cassini spacecraft’s narrow-angle camera, at a distance of 2.4 million kilometres from Titan. (Photo by Science Photo Library)
